It’s no surprise with the history behind Grand Theft Auto and its runaway success since the release of the first edition way back in 1997 that many people are hotly looking forward to the release of Grand Theft Auto VI. Fans are excited all over the world, and a smattering of significant comments on social media has hinted there is further information coming over the release of the game.
The History of Grand Theft Auto
Rockstar Games has left a long pause since the release of Grand Theft Auto V, nine years ago but now all talk is of the latest developments in its successor. Rockstar Games have made no secret that they are well on with the development process, but have stopped short of confirming any of the rumours over features that may be present in the upcoming version. They have confirmed that the series stablemate, Red Dead Redemption 2, a title now four years past its release, will see fewer online updates as the Rockstar development team concentrates their efforts towards Grand Theft Auto VI. A further glimmer of information was provided when the developers commented on the leaked game footage, confirming the game will be set in Vice City and with the inclusion of two protagonists.
Will There Be Official News Anytime Soon?
It may even be that Rockstar Games are making preparations for an announcement within the forthcoming weeks. Weight is given to this being so by the simple reason that the series will shortly, on the 28th of November, be celebrating its 25th anniversary. The timing significance continues gathering weight with the fact that Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is also celebrating its own 20th anniversary shortly. An anniversary announcement would also coincide with Rockstar Games calendar where games are often announced around October. This timing has greater significance for Rockstar Games’ parent company, Take-Two Interactive, who have a habit of aligning announcements to fit well in place with earnings calls.
Of course with feverish expectations from GTA fans who have waited so long it is inevitable that rumours have spread. The circumstantial evidence is strong with the significant line-up of dates; many fans are convinced an announcement is on its way. As with all the latest gaming news, social media has a habit of anticipating how a company moves quite well, but looking to the company itself for information can only clarify the murky waters surrounding Grand Theft Auto VI
What Are Rockstar Games Saying?
Rockstar Games is known for keeping its lips shut about future releases and it seems that the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 is no exception. However, they have released a statement about the nearly 100 videos that are circulating the internet to confirm that they were victims of a network intrusion and it is thought that the videos came from here. Although they won’t say much on the subject they have said that “confidential information from our systems” and that “they don’t anticipate this will have any effect on its ongoing live game services or development timeline”.
As of today, there is no official release date or any teaser from Rockstar Games so it is thought that we’re actually unlikely to see the release of the game until at least 2024 and perhaps even 2025.
Last month saw numerous videos released which are said to be leaked gameplay of the development stages of the new Grand Theft Auto release. This has led to numerous YouTube videos and plenty of buzz on social media about what fans are looking forward to seeing and what features we might expect when the 6th instalment of the Grand Theft Auto franchise is finally released.
What Are Fans Expecting?
With some leaked videos and no official release date for the next instalment of the Grand Theft Auto franchise, as you might imagine fans are keen to talk about what they want from the game and what they’re looking forward to. Some of the videos leaked suggested that there would be both male and female characters that you could use to navigate the game and that’s definitely become a talking point amongst gaming fans. This was confirmed in a Bloomberg report. Later confirmation became available in frames of the leaked footage that showed a pair of protagonists, one male and one female. Could these be, as the Bloomberg report went on to hint, be Bonnie and Clyde? If they are, this would certainly fit many theories seen on social media.
What we have seen in the past is casinos play a heavy part in Grand Theft Auto gaming and Grand Theft Auto 5 was certainly no exception – the popularity of this means that it could be something that we see in the next game release too! One successful DLC update in GTA V was the Diamond Casino. Based in the northeast of Los Santos, the Casino featured penthouses, table games, a range of slot machines that would rival the best casino sites and associated missions including heists. Fans will be hoping to see more of the same in the next instalment of the famous franchise and it is unlikely that Rockstar Games will disappoint them.
Vice City
One feature that has gained positive approval through fans’ social media is the return to Vice City. For many players, the City not seen since the first few years of this century feels like Grand Theft Autos’ rightful home and will be a welcome sight. Though back then we would have been playing the game on Playstation 2’s and today’s level of game interaction was just not possible. If Vice City makes it through to release it will be the first time since Vice City Stories release in 2006 that gameplay returns to the city. A time when we might have played on a PlayStation PCP as the title was one of the early portable platform’s exclusive early release titles.
Of course, what Grand Theft Auto 6 will actually look like is still up in the air, 2024 is a long time in the future and with Rockstar Games not making any official announcements, anything could happen!
