Red Dead Redemption 2 has been out for a few years now, and in that time, the player base has gone from big to huge. With many returning players coming back to the game to further explore one of our favorite heroes’ (Arthur Morgan) adventures and possible outcomes, there are simply so many things to see and do in the game that it’s almost impossible to consider it complete (sorry completionists). With that being said, one particular element of the game is the link between cowboys and UFOs. With literally dozens of documented sightings throughout the 1800s in the part of the USA where this game is based, it would have been foolish for the developers not to include at least one reference. They went even further than this, with several opportunities to spot references with these extraterrestrial beings – and even two close encounters. In this guide, we wanted to explore them.
Cowboys and UFOs
The concept of cowboys encountering unidentified aircraft a couple of centuries ago took place far too often to be a mere conspiracy. In the game, the first encounter that the player has with any form of alien lifeform is a pretty dark one. You’d be forgiven for thinking that a little AI image-style transfer might have taken place between GTA and RDR2 for the first encounter.
While we’re on the topic of AI images and graphics, it’s probably worth noting that CapCut just so happens to specialize in this exact technique. With their online tool, available directly from their website, it’s possible to upload an image and have the style transferred to a completely different finish, all with the press of a few buttons (or the click of a mouse).
The process is very straightforward and can be completed in a matter of minutes. What’s more is that once the image has been worked over by the built-in AI tool included within the site’s software, the results can be downloaded easily and put to good use however you prefer.
Signing up for an account with CapCut is the best way to do this, as you’ll unlock access to all of their AI features that are capable of turning even the most mundane of images into a ground-breaking work of art. What’s more is that there is also a trial included with every signup, so you can log in, take advantage of the tools’ features, and then decide if you’d like to stay on for a full membership.
It’s Always Aliens
Back to RDR2 now with the first sighting looking like something that an AI could develop – and it takes place in the quiet, rural region just north of Emerald Ranch. Approach with caution as when you do, you’ll see a sight taken from history – where a small cult took part in a suicide, although it’s worth noting that only those in charge knew that everyone present would die.
As you enter the small cabin, you’ll find plenty of clues as well as several lifeless corpses. As interesting as this quirky little cabin might appear, the real adventure begins when you look up. Enter at midnight, and you’ll quickly hear a few sounds, like jet engines whirring in the distance. As they approach, a UFO can be seen through the breaks in the roofing. If you try to exit, it will quickly dart off and try as players might. The best they’ve been able to do is use a free GIF maker to capture these fractions of interaction.
The Next Encounter
The experience doesn’t stop here, however, as if players then head over to Mount Shann, which is located northwest of the town of Strawberry, they’ll find a huge mountain range. By climbing to the top of it carefully, especially if on horseback, they’ll eventually find a small rock circle. It might look strange, and that’s because it is – with some players reporting another UFO sighting and others saying that they saw nothing.
In either event, begin a decline down the mountain range and head back to the cabin. As long as it is nighttime and the player is nearby, they’ll begin to see a great green glow coming from the shack itself. If they run outside (if inside) or stay nearby, they’ll come face to face with a medium-sized, saucer-shaped aircraft, complete with flashing lights and haunting music to accompany the experience.
To date, no player has managed to continue this adventure, and there’s a chance that it is the end of it once the UFO is sighted the second time (unless also seen on the mountaintop). In any event, it’s a great Easter egg for players to enjoy, with many saving their progress just before experiencing it all over again.
