To upgrade your soul shards you need to use the item for example the Hellforge Embers. You can easily find them in Sanctuary in the as drops. Each shard offer 4 ranks to be upgraded three times. Following are the ranks and their effects that you can see when you upgrade them.
- You get a unique power based on the type of your Shard at Rank 0.
- Rank 1 augments your Cooldown reduction, Life, Experience, Resource cost reduction, and extra gold from the monsters percentage.
- Your Primary attribute is affected by a single stat like Dexterity, Intelligence, All Resistances, Strength, Ranged attack damage percentage, or Vitality in Rank 2.
- Rank 3 grants a unique power based on the Shard type.
Keep in mind that you cannot control which attributes are affected by the Rank upgrades of your shard. That means that after obtaining the rank attribute you will not be able to change it and use it exactly as it is.
